DETAILS & FAQ’S...

What is Acorn & how is Acorn different from HHH?

Acorn is our new line of Craftsman furniture that has been designed to be  competitively priced.

We haven’t lowered our standards...

we’ve worked to design forms that are faster for us to build and utilize wood more efficiently. That translates to making Acorn forms much more economical to build.

All Acorn forms were inspired and designed to incorporate classic Craftsman scale and design elements, while at the same time having modern function and application.

The Acorn collection is designed to be honest, classic, functional and to last a lifetime...

  1. -The Acorn collection has the same finish, construction, hardware and wood selection that HHH is famous for...

  1. -Acorn is intended to stand side by side with HHH reproductions and HHH custom forms.

How is acorn different from other companies?

Well, in significant and important ways, the key points are...

ACORN... is hand built and hand finished by master carpenters and finishers.

THEM... assembled by overseas and /or unskilled labor. Some “heirloom “makers do not have a single worker on their staff that can build a chair from start to finish.

ACORN... Authentic Craftsman finish, fumed, dyed and shellacked. It takes a master finisher to shellac furniture by hand. Our historic finish achieves a beautiful patina, which is what “heirloom” really means; something future generations will admire and value.

THEM... a spray gun is used to varnish furniture, it will always look and feel like plastic, not wood. It takes an unskilled laborer to varnish furniture.

Besides quarter sawn white oak, the inherent detail that makes “Craftsman” furniture actually “Craftsman” furniture, is the natural feel shellac leaves on of the open grained oak. By its very nature “Craftsman” furniture is not top coated with shiny plastic varnish. The reason no other contemporary company shellacks their furniture is that it’s time consuming and expensive to pay a master finisher. Skilled labor is not not cost effective or a priority at many “heirloom “ makers.

ACORN... hand selects prime old growth quarter sawn white oak... pinned mortise and tenon joinery.

THEM... indifferent, assembly line wood selection, parts made by a computer guided router... absolutely no soul

whatsoever.

“Authentic Techniques, Heirloom Quality”.

“Warm, period-correct finishes using century-old techniques. Beautiful ray-patterned quarter-sawn oak, selected one board at a time. Multiple light-catching layers of hand-applied French shellac. It’s these uncompromising methods employed at Head, Heart and Hand that result in new pieces that look perfectly at home next to century-old originals...”
